Hackley School Receives $30M Gift For New Arts and Technology Center
[Tarrytown, New York] May 19, 2021
We are excited to share that Hackley received a total gift of $30 million from Herbert A. Allen ’58 to support construction of the proposed Center for the Creative Arts and Technology and financial aid endowment. This gift positions Hackley to realize the vision set forth in Redefining Excellence: Learning Beyond Boundaries.
The proposed Center for the Creative Arts and Technology seeks to elevate the role of the creative process in a Hackley education, bringing together the performing arts, visual arts, and computer science departments into a state-of-the-art facility located on the current site of the Performing Arts Center. The program housed within the Center increases interdisciplinary connections between these subjects, while also providing students with outstanding performance and learning facilities. With Mr. Allen’s generous gift and additional support from the community, Hackley is positioned to break ground on the new Center within the next 12-18 months.
A portion of Mr. Allen’s gift will support Hackley’s financial aid endowment, and it is the largest single endowment gift in Hackley’s 122-year history. A robust financial aid endowment ensures that Hackley continues to meet its mission-driven commitment to an educational environment enriched by “varying perspectives and backgrounds.”
We are grateful to Mr. Allen for his generous support and the philanthropic leadership his family has demonstrated across generations. With this transformational gift, Hackley will be able to move forward on this exciting construction project, while also building our endowment to support our mission-driven commitment to financial aid. Please join us in expressing the collective appreciation of current and future Hackley students as we share this truly extraordinary news, and move forward with this exciting project.
